MS Sports Info from the Athletic Director

Welcome to Great Falls Middle School! We value Athletics as part of building a safe, positive school community and promoting student growth and achievement. Middle School students are eligible to try out for:

Fall Sports:

  • JV/Varsity Girls Volleyball
  • MS/Varsity Girls Field Hockey
  • MS Coed Soccer
  • MS Boys Football
  • Varsity Coed Golf
  • Cheerleading

Winter Sports:

  • Varsity Swimming – Boys and Girls
  • MS Basketball - Boys and Girls
  • Cheerleading

Spring Sports:

  • Boys Baseball
  • Girls Softball
  • Varsity Tennis – Boys and Girls
  • Varsity Girls Track and Field

Fall sports practices start at varying times in the last weeks of August. Winter sports start the Monday after Thanksgiving, and spring sports start on the 3rd Monday in March, weather permitting. In season, Twitter (@TFHS_Athletics) and the free MIAA app provide updated scores, postponements, and other useful information.

To be eligible for participation, students must fill out a blue form, fill out an MIAA Pre-Participation Concussion History form, take the baseline Impact Test, and have a current physical on file in the nurses’ office. All forms and detailed instructions are available in a packet in the main office. Students will not be permitted to participate until all forms are cleared by the Athletic Director (Adam.Graves@gmrsd.org; 413-863-7314).

Some teams do have “cuts”- they are determined by coaches after a minimum of four days of practice. In season, students must attend the entire school day to practice or play, must remain academically eligible to stay on a team, must follow all MIAA rules, and generally must expect to be held to high standards as representatives of themselves and their school. Please contact me if you have any questions!
