Hillcrest Elementary School

Friday News

October 7, 2022

Dear Hillcrest Families,

Now that October is here, our students are wearing their sweaters, sweatshirts and jackets on the cooler fall mornings.  Please be sure to label all of your children’s seasonal gear with their first and last names so that we can help keep track of these belongings.

A few important news items:

  • Friends of Hillcrest has planned a really fun Spirit Week for the week of October 17th.  These spirit days are a fun, optional activity.  Please check out the flyer included with your weekly email for more information.

  • Later in the month, on Friday, October 28th, at 9:00 a.m., we will hold our first All School Meeting of the school year.  At this monthly event, we gather as a community to celebrate our students’ learning.  For the October All School Meeting, we will enjoy presentations from Mrs. Prevett’s Preschoolers, Mrs. Fox’s Kindergarten students and Ms. Smith’s first graders.  For those of you who like to plan ahead . . . in November, we will meet on Friday, November 18th and in December, we will meet on Friday, December 16th.  All Hillcrest community members are invited to attend.

  • Also on October 28th, Friends of Hillcrest and Friends of Sheffield are collaborating to bring a Trunk or Treat event to our community.  Please be sure to check out the Trunk or Treat flyer that went home earlier this week for more information. You can also find details about the Trunk or Treat attached to this week’s email.

  • It has come to my attention that we’ve had some community members who have been smoking or vaping on school grounds at dismissal time.  In Massachusetts, it is illegal to smoke or vape on school property.  If you observe smoking or vaping at Hillcrest, please report it to the main office so that we can take action to keep our school and students safe from the harmful effects of smoking and vaping.

  • Please be on the lookout for a separate email from me with information about a town wide survey regarding Five Villages: One Future.

IMPORTANT REPEAT ITEMS

  • At Open House,  you may have seen the display boards showing an architect’s design of the Hillcrest Neighborhood Playground Project. On Tuesday, October 18th at 6:00 p.m, we’ll be hosting an Informational Meeting about the playground project and we’re inviting Hillcrest school community members and local residents to learn more about the project.  Representatives of Berkshire Design Group, the Town of Montague, Hillcrest Elementary, and Franklin County Regional Housing & Redevelopment Authority will be present to discuss the plans and field any questions.  Please consider joining us and please share the news of this event with your friends and neighbors.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend –

Sarah Burstein
