Friday News

October 28, 2022

Dear Hillcrest Families,

We were so happy to gather together for our first All School Meeting of the year this morning!  We enjoyed wonderful presentations across all three grade levels. Thank you very much to all of the family and community  members who were able to join us!

A few important news items:

  • At All School Meeting, the following classes presented their learning:

    • Mrs. Prevett’s students presented their math learning with The Five Little Pumpkins chant.

    • Mrs. Fox’s students shared their literacy learning with a poem about apples.

    • Ms. Smith’s students shared their social studies learning with posters & sentences about their families.

  • After All School Meeting, Ms. Smith hosted a family read-aloud of the book, Saturday by Oge Mora.  This book, along with several other titles from our Diverse Books Collection, is available for families to borrow from our Family Lending Library.  We’ll have another opportunity for book borrowing at our November All School Meeting.  If you want to check out a book from that collection before the November meeting, you’re welcome to do so. The books are located in the main entry area of our school building.  Please feel free to stop by to borrow a book!

  • Friends of Hillcrest is hosting a Trunk or Treat event this evening in the Sheffield Elementary School parking lot from 5:30 to 7:30. Please check your email for more information about that special event.

  • On Monday, Firefighter Luke from the Turners Falls Fire Department will visit Hillcrest to review important Halloween safety tips with our students.  He will also distribute glow sticks for students to use if they are going Trick or Treating on Monday night.

  • We are looking forward to participating in the annual Food Drive to benefit the basic needs pantry at MCSM (Montague Catholic Social Ministries).   The Food Drive will begin on November 28th and continue through December 16th. We will have collection boxes here at school, so please consider participating in this worthwhile event.  MCSM provides a wide range of valuable services to all members of the community.

IMPORTANT REPEAT ITEMS

  • With Halloween just around the corner, I wanted to remind families that candy is not allowed at school. Please do not send your child to school with any treats on Halloween.  And, please remember that Hillcrest students should not wear Halloween costumes to school.

  • If you or a family member are looking for a Flu or Covid Vaccine, you can get vaccinated at the Montague Town Hall Annex from 3:00 - 5:00 on Friday, November 18th. Please check out the flyers attached to your weekly email for details.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend –

Sarah Burstein, Hillcrest Principal
