Friday News

October 14, 2022

Dear Hillcrest Families,

Did you know that October 9th - 15th is Fire Safety Week?  Please read below for details about our special visitors from the Turners Falls Fire Department in recognition of this important week.

A few important news items:

  • On Thursday, October 14th, all Hillcrest students enjoyed special presentations from the Turners Falls Firefighters.   Please be sure to ask your child about what they learned. Some very important topics included practicing a home fire drill, designating a family meeting spot in the event of a house fire, checking on your home smoke detectors and replacing the batteries, and staying away from items that can cause fires such as matches, lighters and candles.  We are so appreciative of the team at Turners Falls Fire Department for teaching our students these important lessons.  And, we also want to extend a thank you for the coloring books and firefighter helmets!

  • Friends of Hillcrest has planned a fun Spirit Week beginning on Monday, October 17th. Please see the attached flier for details.

  • And, please take a look in your child’s backpack for a notice from Friends of Hillcrest about the Butterbraid Fundraiser.

  • Family Conferences will take place next week on Thursday, October 20th and Friday, October 21st.  We are very proud to say that we generally have close to 100% participation in our Family Conferences and we love to welcome every single family to conferences.  If you still need an appointment, please call Mrs. Prokowich in the main office at 863-9526.

  • Are you planning to attend our October All School Meeting on October 28th? The following classes will be presenting their learning: Mrs. Prevett’s Preschoolers, Mrs. Fox’s Kindergarteners, and Ms. Smith’s First Graders.

  • Please be on the lookout for a separate email from me with information about a town wide survey regarding Five Villages: One Future.

IMPORTANT REPEAT ITEMS

  • It has come to my attention that we’ve had some community members who have been smoking or vaping on school grounds at dismissal time.  In Massachusetts, it is illegal to smoke or vape on school property.  If you observe smoking or vaping at Hillcrest, please report it to the main office so that we can take action to keep our school and students safe from the harmful effects of smoking and vaping.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend –

Sarah Burstein, Hillcrest Principal
