Hillcrest Elementary School

Friday News

October 1, 2021

Dear Hillcrest Families,

Happy October to everyone!  September really flew by and we are all getting settled into our school routines.  You may have noticed that our morning drop-off is becoming more efficient -- thank you for your patience in that process.

A few important news items:

  • Attached to this week’s email, you will find the October School Lunch Menu.  If you are reading this on our website or via Facebook, you can access the school lunch menu here: GMRSD Food Services

  • Massachusetts Fire Prevention Week is October 3rd - October 9th.   Each October, the Turners Falls Fire Department visits our school to introduce themselves to our students and to provide fire safety education.  These visits will happen over the next couple of weeks and I am sure your children will be really excited to meet our local firefighters!

  • Next week, all Hillcrest students will receive information about an Original Works fundraiser hosted by Friends of Hillcrest.  Original Works is a company that creates a range of fun products featuring your child’s artwork (tote bags, calendars, coffee mugs, etc.).  These make lovely gifts!  Students will create the artwork at school and then parents can preview the completed work.  Stay tuned for more details.

  • This year, our Hillcrest Open House will be a virtual event featuring online slideshows created by our teaching staff.  The Open House will be held on Wednesday, October 13th from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. and will be accessible via our school website: http://www.gmrsd.org/hillcrest-elementary-school.  A reminder email will be sent to all Hillcrest families prior to Open House.

  • Next week, we will have an Early Release Day on October 6th.  Our Preschool Teachers will be attending a professional development session focused on our mathematics program, Bridges, and our kindergarten and first grade teachers will be attending a professional development session focused on Geodes, which is one component of the Wit & Wisdom literacy program.

  • If you’re interested in the Community Flu Vaccine Clinics (see details below), please contact the Hillcrest Health Office at 863-2638 to talk with Nurse Jazmin Miller.

IMPORTANT REPEAT ITEM

  • GMRSD  will  be holding flu vaccine clinics on the following days:

    • Sheffield Elementary School, Wednesday, October 6, 3:30-5:00 p.m.

    • Gill Elementary School: Thursday, October 14, 3:30-5:30 p.m.

    • Hillcrest Elementary School: Friday, October 15, 3:30-5:00 p.m.

    • Turners Falls High School: Tuesday, October 19, 2:00-3:30 p.m.

    • A vaccination consent form can be filled out and signed by anyone getting a flu vaccine prior to the clinic for efficiency. Anyone who is younger than 18 will need a parent/guardian signature. The vaccine is free, but please bring your health insurance cards (original or photocopy of your prescription drug card, major medical card, and Medicare card if enrolled) if you have insurance. Clothes should be worn that allow quick and easy access to the upper shoulder region. These clinics are open to school students and families.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend ---

Sarah Burstein
