Friday News

November 4, 2022

Dear Hillcrest Families,

Wow! How did we arrive in November already?  With our unseasonably warm weather, it’s hard to believe that winter is just around the corner!

A few important news items:

  • Looking ahead to next week, Picture Retake Day will be Wednesday, November 9th. Please check your child’s backpack for a notice from Molly Baxter at Classic Photography.   You will also find the same information attached to your weekly email.

  • We’re excited to host our first annual Turkey Trot on Wednesday, November 23rd.  Hillcrest PE Teacher, Liz Tyler, has organized a really fun fitness event for Hillcrest and Sheffield students. Please see the attached notices for details.  You will also receive more information in your child’s backpack next week.  We’re hoping to have lots of family involvement in this event.

  • Next Friday, November 11th is Veterans’ Day and there is no school.  Many of our students are learning about Veterans’ Day in their classrooms.  You may want to ask your Hillcrest student what they know about the upcoming holiday.

  • Some of you may have received a note from Nurse Jazmin this week about the need to send in documentation from your child’s most recent physical exam with their health care provider.  If you have any questions about this, please call Nurse Jazmin at 863-2638.

  • Don’t forget that Ms. Hirst has organized a monthly math challenge!  For October, the challenge involves favorites.  What’s your child’s favorite number? Ask your child their favorite number and then share the answer with Ms. Hirst.  You can send a note to Ms. Hirst in your child’s backpack or you can send the answer via email at veronica.hirst@gmrsd.org. Please send your answer by November 10th so that your child can be entered into a drawing for a cool math prize! This month’s math prize is a Ten Frame Pop-It!

IMPORTANT REPEAT ITEMS

  • We are looking forward to participating in the annual Food Drive to benefit the basic needs pantry at MCSM (Montague Catholic Social Ministries).   The Food Drive will begin on November 28th and continue through December 16th. We will have collection boxes here at school, so please consider participating in this worthwhile event.  MCSM provides a wide range of valuable services to all members of the community.

  • If you or a family member are looking for a Flu or Covid Vaccine, you can get vaccinated at the Montague Town Hall Annex from 3:00 - 5:00 on Friday, November 18th. Please check out the flyers attached to your weekly email for details.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend –

Sarah Burstein, Hillcrest Principal
