Dear Hillcrest Families,

Happy May to all of you!  There are so many special events this month -- get ready to mark your calendars!  We kicked off the many May events with a wonderful performance by our first graders this morning.  We are all so grateful to musician and educator Sarah Pirtle for leading our students in creating their own original musical compositions.  

  • We also celebrated School Lunch Hero Day today! We are so lucky to have Mary Savinski and Kim Watroba in our cafeteria each day. In addition to preparing breakfast, snack and lunch for our Hillcrest students, Ms Mary and Ms Kim take special care in greeting each child by name each day, learning about their food preferences, skillfully managing food allergies, and noticing new haircuts, missing teeth and special achievements!

  • Please be sure to join us for the HIllcrest Story Walk tomorrow morning in downtown Turners Falls along Avenue A between 3rd and 4th Streets from 10:00 a.m. to noon. This interactive family reading experience of Call Me Tree/Llamame Arbol by Maya Christina Gonzalez will be followed by a gallery exhibition of Hillcrest student artwork and a free children’s concert featuring local musicians Tom & Laurie Davidson at La Mariposa Collective. The concert begins at 11:00.

  • Later this month, on May 16th, we’ll enjoy a visit from storyteller John Porcino. This special event was organized by Hillcrest Library Teacher, Jessika Nadeau, and funded by the Gill-Montague Education Fund.  Please see the flyer in your child’s folder for more details.   • On May 17th, we’ll gather for our May All School Meeting. Please note the date change from the original date of May 24th. In addition to student presentations of learning from Ms. Chanda’ preschoolers, Ms. Hirst’s kindergarten students and Ms. Casey’s first graders, we’ll also be honoring our Hillcrest volunteers at this All School Meeting.
