Principal Newsletter 3/4/22

  • As we’ve welcomed students back after the winter break, we’re noticing some are quite worried about the events happening in Ukraine.  As much as you may feel you’re sheltering them from information, many are expressing worry.  Please talk with your child(ren) and alert us if we can be of assistance.

  • The staff understood the beginning of this year was going to be different than the start of previous years.  As a result we were understanding and allowed some students items from home that provided them additional comfort. We are two-thirds through the year and the staff is feeling the need to tighten previous rules about outside items from home coming into school.  I have collaborated with our district Occupational Therapist to purchase fidgets for every classroom and a google slide show was shared with all classrooms on how to use these tools to support only those students who have them as accommodations in their IEP or 504.  Please keep store bought fidgets/stuffed animals/toys at home.

  • Wednesday, March 9 is a half day with a noon dismissal.  The spirit day will be, dress in one color day!  Is blue your favorite color? Wear everything blue that day!  Choose your favorite color and wear as much of it as you can!  As with all spirit days, this is voluntary.

  • Calling all girls in grades 3-5! The Girls on the Run spring season is about to begin and we hope you'll join us!

Girls on the Run is an after school program like no other. Twice per week, for ten weeks, girls will have fun, make friends, increase their physical activity levels and learn important life skills. Trained and caring coaches will lead the team through interactive lessons and movement activities. The season ends with a celebratory 5K event!  Practices will be held at Sheffield on Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning March 22, from 3:30-5:00. Registration is now open! See our attached flyer for more details and visit www.girlsontherunwesternma.org  for more information and to register.

  • Mrs. Clare Toohey started Thursday as our new counselor!

  • Spring parent/teacher conferences are scheduled for the afternoons of March 17th and March 18th.  Teachers will be reaching out soon if they haven’t already set up a schedule to meet.  These are half days with noon dismissal.
