Athletics at GFMS

We hope you will come out and cheer on our student athletes. We post high school and middle school games on the calendar on this website, and more detailed updates on Twitter (follow @TFHSAthletics), at www.miaa.net, and www.digitalsports.com.

Middle school students can try out to play on any team, including Varsity teams, with the Athletic Director's approval. Teams at the Middle School level are geared towards learning the game, building individual skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. There is NOT any emphasis on winning at the Middle School level. JV and Varsity are more competitive. We aim to have students signed up for sports and all paperwork in before the season begins.

We do everything that we can to avoid “cuts”. However some sports do have some limits to them. Any MS student that shows up to every practice, practices hard, and is in good standing in school with grades and behavior WILL play in the games. Playing time is not, and never will be, exactly equal, but all athletes will be given a chance if they meet the requirements.

Fall sports: field hockey, volleyball, football, cheer and soccer
Winter sports: basketball, swimming, and cheer
Spring sports: softball, baseball, track, and tennis

Middle School practices are normally 1 hr 30 minutes to 2 hours TOPS and we try to start them as close to dismissal as possible -- but it depends on the coach’s schedule.

We LOVE to have parents come to support their student/athletes at games!! They do NOT need to be at practices -- in fact, we find it is often better for coaches and kids to practice without parents watching. Transportation to and from games is provided. Players will need a way to get home from the school after games and after practices.
