Principal Newsletter 12/17

  • We have been holding monthly Half School Meetings which follow Responsive Classroom’s Morning Meeting components; Greeting, Sharing, Activity and News and Announcements.  I have added ‘birthday’ in there and give pencils to staff and students who have a birthday in the month.  Summer birthdays will be celebrated in June.  4th and 5th graders meet for a half hour in the afternoon, there’s a 10 minute break, then 2nd and 3rd have a half hour meeting.  By having half of the school at once in the auditorium, we can safely have students sitting three feet apart.  Today the TFHS band came to perform for the 4th and 5th graders to excite them in joining in a few years.

  • To ensure safety, the Montague police were at arrival and drove around the school throughout the day today.

  • Thank you to all the families who donated food to our food drive, it was greatly appreciated!

  • I’m excited to share that starting January 14, students will be engaging in a 45 minute Exploration Time.  Fifteen staff members will be sharing/teaching a hobby/interest of theirs to students.  Students will be shown a video of the offerings and will choose their top five choices.  We will conduct Exploration Time for 5 Friday’s from January to March.  We look to make another five week offering in the spring.

  • It has been exciting to see students reading books when I visit classrooms.  To maintain that momentum I’m challenging students to read 140 minutes over the holiday break.  A paper reading log will be sent home or students can access i-Ready for 140 minutes.  Each student who completes this challenge will have their picture on our Wall of Fame and will be given a free book.

  • School Council is Tuesday, December 21 from 4:00-5:00 pm.  These are in person meetings in the office, and the public is welcome to attend.

  • Wednesday, December 22 is a half day with a noon dismissal.  School will reopen on Monday, January 3rd.

  • I’d like to wish all of you a relaxing, joyful and peaceful holiday!

With Sheffield Pride,
