Hillcrest Elementary School

Dear Hillcrest Families,

We had an exciting week here at Hillcrest!  On Tuesday and Wednesday, we were joined by Gill Elementary School’s kindergarten and first grade students and teachers.  These special guests settled right into our Library and our Art Room for their daily learning and they joined our Hillcrest students at lunch and recess each day.  It was sort of like a big field trip for the Gill Elementary students. And, for all of the students, it was a fun opportunity to connect with friends and teammates (we even had a few cousins, too)!

A few important notes:

  • Some reminders about our Morning Arrival Routines:

    • If you choose to participate in Rolling Drop-Off at the front traffic circle, please keep in mind that you must follow all traffic regulations concerning school busses.  In addition, students must wait for a Hillcrest staff member to assist them in exiting the vehicle and they should exit the vehicle from the passenger side only.  We are only able to unload one car at at time, so please be patient.

    • If you choose to use the Griswold Street parking lot, please remember that you must park your car in a designated spot and accompany your child from the vehicle to the walkway or courtyard area. Children must not travel independently in the parking lot.

    • These routines have been established to protect the safety of Hillcrest students, family members and staff members.  It is essential that we all work together at this busy time of day.

  • Hillcrest School Council met this Thursday, January 10th and we continued our work in planning a Story Walk to occur in May along Avenue A.  If you’re interested in helping out with this project, please let me know.

  • We hope that many family and community members will join us for our January All School Meeting on January 18th at 9:00. We will enjoy presentations from the following classes: Mrs. Prevett’s preschoolers, Mrs. Lesenski’s kindergarten class, and Miss Matrishon’s first grade class.  Our theme is Social Justice.

  • And, please join us on the evening on January 18th for Cocoa, Cookies & Crafts from 5:30 - 6:30. This free and fun family event is sponsored by Friends of Hillcrest.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend --

Sarah Burstein
