Principal Newsletter January 3, 2019

  • Thank you again to all the families who donated food to our food drive.  Sheffield collected more food donations than any of the other schools! We had a total of over 900 items!

  • There is a School Council meeting on Monday, January 7 in my office from 3:30-4:30 pm.  This is an open meeting and anyone can attend.

  • Wednesday, January 9th is a half day of school with a noon dismissal.  The Sheffield pride theme day is Winter White and students are invited to wear clothing that is white or has a winter theme.  Students could also wear hockey/basketball/football (Go Patriots!) jersey, or something with snowflakes, snow people, or other winter scene!  Students can wear blue as well- Turners Falls colors! All clothing must be appropriate per our school guidelines. No make-up, or hair sprays please.  This is not a hat day.

The Counselors’ Corner: It’s not too early to start a conversation about the world of work with your child! If you are ever looking for something to do with your child during the winter months, we  encourage you to explore the world of work! Learning about a variety of jobs and careers by reading books from the library or searching the internet helps your child begin to shape important “hopes and dreams” about what they might want to do or be when they grow up.  Help them begin to identify connections between potential jobs and their interests, strengths, and talents. . If you know someone who has a job that your child is considering, perhaps you could arrange a visit to their workplace! Point out people in various jobs and occupations as you go through your day.  Every job is important!  Ask your child why they think different jobs are important—teachers, road crews, bankers, musicians, doctors, custodians, store clerks, police officers, carpenters, computer programmers, scientists, artists, firefighters, and more!  Of course, your child does not have to decide right now what they want to do or be when they grow up, but exploring the world of work now opens their minds to possibilities…and that can be exciting!  Here is a web site that offers information, videos, and activities about many jobs:  https://www.usa.gov/jobs-careers?source=kids . Enjoy! The Sheffield Elementary School Counselors may be reached at 863-7451.
