Friday News

September 9, 2022

Dear Hillcrest Families,

We finally have a full house here at Hillcrest! This week, we welcomed our kindergarten and preschool students and we’re enjoying getting to know all of our new students.  Our youngest students are learning so many new routines and they’re likely to be pretty tuckered out by the end of their school day! That “back to school fatigue” will eventually decrease and your little ones will be back to their typical high energy selves in a few weeks.

A few important news items:

  • Please be sure to return your back to school paperwork as soon as possible.  It’s essential that we have confirmation of each student’s contact information.  If you need assistance with these forms, please call Mrs. Prokowich in our Main Office at 863-9526.

  • School Picture Day is coming soon – Tuesday, September 20th. You will find details about school picture packages attached to your weekly email. Those details are also posted on our school website.

  • This year, we’re serving “Breakfast After The Bell” and all students are welcome to eat school breakfast in their classrooms.  Many children are already enjoying this meal at school. All school meals are available to all Hillcrest students free of charge.  If you have any questions or suggestions about school breakfast (or lunch), please feel free to  call or email Michelle Cloutier, our cafeteria manager at 863-7402 or michelle.cloutier@gmrsd.org

  • Please remember that we are a Nut Safe school district. This means that no nuts or nut products are allowed in our school buildings or offered in our school meal program.  Please see the Life Threatening Allergy Policy letter attached to this week’s email.  This letter was mailed home with your welcome packet in mid August, so you may still have a paper copy at home, too.

  • Friends of Hillcrest will hold its September meeting on Tuesday, September 13th at 6:00 here at Hillcrest.  All Hillcrest community members are invited to attend.  For more information, please email friendsofhillcrest2015@gmail.com. Friends of Hillcrest will meet the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m.

  • Ms. Chanda, one of our preschool teachers, is organizing some Spirit Days for any Hillcrest student who would like to participate. These are fun, voluntary opportunities – so if your child wants to join in, that’s great, but don’t worry if not!  Here are the upcoming Spirit Days:

    • Friday, September 16th – Wear Something Red Day

    • Friday, September 30th  - Wear a Hat Day

IMPORTANT REPEAT ITEMS

  • An important safety reminder: The parking spots near the traffic circle are meant for families and visitors to use during the school day, not during arrival and dismissal. During morning arrival and afternoon dismissal, families are expected to use the large parking lot on Griswold Street. The traffic circle gets easily congested with rolling drop-off vehicles (morning) and school buses (morning and afternoon). Vehicles entering and exiting parking spaces creates a significant safety hazard.  The only exception to this rule is for families who have a documented reason to use the accessible parking spaces adjacent to the traffic circle.

  • Please be sure to mark your calendar for Hillcrest Open House on Thursday, September 29th. More details to follow.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend –

Sarah Burstein
