Dear Hillcrest Families,

Happy First Day of Fall!  I am looking forward to all that Fall has to offer here in Western Massachusetts . . . crunchy leaves, apple picking and the local Pumpkinfest, now known as The Great Falls Festival. And, of course, I am really excited about the Hillcrest Open House next Thursday, September 29th . . . we hope that all Hillcrest families will be able to join us!

A few important news items:

  • Please be on the lookout for some information from Friends of Hillcrest in your student’s folder today. You will also find the same information attached to your weekly email. Friends of Hillcrest is our “PTO” and it’s a group of Hillcrest family members who work together to plan fun events for our students, their families and our staff as well.  All Hillcrest community members are welcome and encouraged to join Friends of Hillcrest. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 11th at 6:00 here at Hillcrest. You can reach Friends of Hillcrest at

  • And, if you're looking for another way to get involved in the school community, we are always looking for family members who would like to join our School Council. The School Council is a group of Hillcrest family members, staff members and community representatives who work with the school principal to support the implementation of the annual School Improvement Plan.  If you want to learn more about School Council, please call me at 863-7400 or send me an email at

  • Please be sure to read the attached information in your weekly email about our daily arrival and dismissal routines. This information was shared with you in your welcome packet and can also be found in the Hillcrest Family Handbook.  In particular, please note our school start and end times and the expected parking locations. Thank you.

  • Our Hillcrest Open House will be held on Thursday, September 29th from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. This family event follows a drop-in format in which you are welcome to join us at any point between 5:00 and 6:00. Some families may spend 20 minutes and others spend up to 45 minutes visiting our teachers and classrooms.  This year, we have scheduled our Open House on the same night as the Open House at Sheffield Elementary so that families with children in both buildings can start at Hillcrest and then head next door to Sheffield.  We really hope to see every Hillcrest family at Open House!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend –

Sarah Burstein
