Friday News

September 20, 2019

Dear Hillcrest Families,

When we all return to school on Monday, it will be the first day of Fall!  These first few weeks of the school year have zoomed right by and our students are making great progress as they get settled into new routines, dig into new learning and develop new friendships.  As Hillcrest families get into their back-to-school routines, there are some questions that traditionally arise. For the most part, you can find the answers to many of your questions in the Hillcrest Directory & Family Handbook. That said, you may have questions that need a more immediate answer, so I encourage you to call us us at school Main Office 863-9526) in order to get the information you need.  For general classroom questions, please start by contacting your child’s teacher via telephone, email or a note in the blue home-school folder. Attached to this newsletter, you will find a list of teacher emails. If you’re hoping to get in touch with a teacher during morning drop-off, please come to the main office and check in with Mrs. Prokowich. She can help get a message to the right person for you.  While we open the building at 8:00 for school breakfast, our school day, and our classroom teachers, do not begin until 8:30. Between 8:00 and 8:30, classroom teachers are not available for meetings, but they will certainly respond to your message later in the day. If you have questions that are not classroom-related, or if you have a concern that you think is better suited for me to address, you can reach me at 863-7400 or at sarah.burstein@gmrsd.org. We truly look forward to hearing from you, so please don’t hesitate to contact us.

A few important news items:

  • Please keep in mind that the parking lot on Griswold Street is NOT the location for Rolling Drop-Off.  If you are using this parking lot to bring your child to school, you must park your vehicle and walk your child to the sidewalk area.  For kindergarten and first grade families who want to participate in Rolling Drop-Off, please drive into the main driveway and into the traffic circle.  You will be met by a staff member who will assist your child in exiting the vehicle. For more details on arrivals and dismissals, please refer to the Hillcrest Directory & Family Handbook.

  • Don’t forget that the Friends of Hillcrest mums will be delivered on Monday, September 23rd.

  • Our September All School Meeting will be held on Friday, September 27th at 9:00. The following classes will be presenting: Preschool/Ms.Chase, Kindergarten/Mrs. Lesenski, First Grade/Ms. Smith.

  • Friends of Hillcrest will host a Hillcrest Potluck & Games Night on Friday, September 27th. This free family event is a great way to meet your child’s classmates and connect with your neighbors.

  • Hillcrest Open House will be held on Thursday, October 10th from 5:30 - 6:30. Please mark your calendars for this very special event!

  • Our school district is looking for a part-time substitute custodian. If you are interested in this afternoon/evening position, please contact Heath Cummings, GMRSD Facilities Manager, at 413-863-3261.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend --

Sarah Burstein
