Dear Hillcrest Families,

We’ve all really enjoyed our first two days of school here at Hillcrest! Our first graders seem so happy to be back together with their friends and they’ve been doing a great job learning all the new routines in their new classrooms. Many of our preschool and kindergarten students visited their classrooms for their Orientation Meetings this week and we look forward to several more Orientation Meetings next week, too. This gradual start to the school year offers each of our age groups a chance to build positive connections, get acclimated to their new surroundings and make a smooth transition from summer to fall.

A few important news items:

  • Special thanks go out to Friends of Hillcrest and our talented student artists who decorated our school entrance with colorful chalk drawings on Wednesday afternoon. It was so much fun to start our first day surrounded by this vibrant artwork!
  • Please be sure to check your child’s backpack each day for any important school paperwork.  During these first couple weeks of school, there are many essential forms that need to be completed.  In addition to these forms, please be sure to check out the Hillcrest Directory & Family Handbook.  The handbook will be your go-to resource on a range of school-related topics.

  • Attached to your weekly email you will find information about upcoming Flu & Covid vaccine clinics.  For Covid-related concerns and all health questions, please call our school nurse, Jazmin Miller, at 413-863-2638.

  • An important safety reminder: The parking spots near the traffic circle are meant for families and visitors to use during the school day, not during arrival and dismissal. During morning arrival and afternoon dismissal, families are expected to use the large parking lot on Griswold Street. The traffic circle gets easily congested with rolling drop-off vehicles (morning) and school buses (morning and afternoon). Vehicles entering and exiting parking spaces creates a significant safety hazard.  The only exception to this rule is for families who have a documented reason to use the accessible parking spaces adjacent to the traffic circle.

  • Please be sure to mark your calendar for Hillcrest Open House on Thursday, September 29th. More details to follow.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend –

Sarah Burstein
