Hillcrest Elementary School

Friday News

October 18, 2019

Dear Hillcrest Families,

At Open House last week, I briefly mentioned our School Improvement Plan.  Every public school in Massachusetts is required to have a School Improvement Plan and this year the Hillcrest plan focuses on five goal areas:  Mathematics Teaching & Learning, Literacy Teaching & Learning, Teaching for Diversity, Social-Emotional Learning, and Community Engagement. If you are interested in learning more about our Hillcrest School Improvement Plan, I hope you will join us for our first School Council Meeting of the year on Tuesday, October 29th at 3:30 in the Hillcrest Library.

This week’s lockdown drill went very smoothly! Thanks to thoughtful preparation by our Hillcrest staff, our students were calm and quiet throughout the drill and it was completed very quickly.  We are so appreciative of the assistance of our local and state police officers in helping us to practice this important safety routine.

Looking ahead to next week, we will hold our October All School Meeting on Friday, October 25th at 9:00.  We will enjoy presentations from Mrs. Prevett’s preschool class, Mrs. Lesenski’s kindergarten class and Miss Matrishon’s first graders.  All School Meeting is a wonderful Hillcrest tradition and we always welcome family, friends and community members. Even if your student is not presenting, please join us!

A few important news items:

  • Wednesday, October 23rd is an Early Release/In-Service Day.  Hillcrest staff members will spend the afternoon focused on the implementation of the Bridges math program.

  • Our October All School Meeting will take place at 9:00 on Friday, October 25th.

  • Our October School Council Meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 29th at 3:30.

  • Picture Retake Day will be Wednesday, October 30th.

  • Parent Conferences will be held on Thursday, November 7th and Friday, November 8th.   Be on the lookout for more information from your child’s teacher about the conference schedule.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend --

Sarah Burstein, Principal
