Dear Hillcrest Families,

May has arrived and as they say, “April showers bring May flowers.”  Our All Purpose Room was full of potted plants (remaining from the Spring Festival flower sale) when our students arrived on Monday morning.  It was really interesting to hear the students talking about the surprise garden that had sprouted over the weekend!  Thank you to all of the community members who purchased these flowers over the course of the week . . . our garden is shrinking and the Friends of Hillcrest fundraiser is growing!

A few important news items:

  • We are grateful to Friends of Hillcrest for hosting a fabulous Spring Festival last Saturday, April 30th! This super-fun event was very well attended and it was such a treat to see so many current and former Hillcrest students enjoying a sunny Saturday together.  I hope this wonderful event will become a Hillcrest tradition.

  • Another big THANK YOU goes out to Friends of Hillcrest for the Teacher Appreciation Week treats! It is so important for our community of educators to be recognized for their incredible work here at Hillcrest.

  • We held our opening session of the Diverse Books Family Lending Library this week and we have additional dates on the calendar.  If your student borrowed a book this week, please take a few more days to enjoy it and then please send it back to school by Tuesday, May 10th.   Here are the details about the next two lending sessions:

    • Wednesday, May 11th from 2:45 - 3:15 for Preschool & Kindergarten at their Dismissal Location

    • Tuesday, May 17th from 2:55 - 3:15 for our Kindergarten & First Grade Bus Students

  • Our Story Wak will continue through this weekend and will be disassembled on Monday. If you haven’t had a chance to enjoy the Story Walk featuring the book, Thank You, Omu!, please stop by Hillcrest this weekend. You will find the Story Walk along the first grade sidewalk adjacent to the small ball fields.
