Friday News

April 16, 2021

Dear Hillcrest Families,

Just as we’re about to embark on spring vacation week, we’re watching giant snowflakes fall from the sky!  New England weather never stops surprising us! I hope that the upcoming week brings some true springtime weather and that you are able to enjoy some outdoor fun with your Hillcrest student.  I am certainly looking forward to working on my garden and taking some long walks with my dog.

Some important news items for the week:

  • Earlier this week, you should have received an email from me with information about a Friends of Hillcrest Flower Sale. This information was also sent home in backpacks with our In-Person Learning students. I hope you’ll consider participating in this annual fundraiser.  These flowers make lovely gifts and will arrive on Friday, May 7th, just in time for Mother’s Day!

  • When we return from vacation, we have an exciting event planned for Wednesday, April 28th.  Local musicians, Tom & Laurie, will be presenting a virtual concert for our students.  Special thanks to our Hillcrest School Council for planning this special treat!

  • The school calendar has just been updated to reflect our Snow Days.  A copy of that updated calendar, with June 14th as the last day of school, can be found here.

  • As we head into school vacation week, here is the most recent Massachusetts Travel Advisory:

As of Monday, March 22, all visitors entering Massachusetts, including returning residents, are advised to quarantine for 10 days upon their arrival.  Travelers in the following categories are exempt from this quarantine advisory:

  • Travelers who have received a negative COVID-19 result on a test administered not more than 72 hours prior to their arrival in Massachusetts.  Travelers may also test out of the quarantine advisory after arrival in Massachusetts, as long as they quarantine until receiving a negative test result.

  • Anyone who is entering Massachusetts for fewer than 24 hours

  • Anyone who is returning to Massachusetts after being out of the State for fewer than 24 hours

  • Workers who enter Massachusetts to perform critical infrastructure functions (as specified by the Federal Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency) during required commuting to or from work and while at work.

  • Travelers who are fully vaccinated (i.e. who have received two doses of either the Moderna or Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines OR who have received a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, 14 days or more ago) and who do not have symptoms.

All travelers are encouraged to consult and follow the CDC’s guidelines and requirements for travel.

  • REPEAT ITEM -- Please note that Hillcrest is a Nut-Free school this year.  This means that your Hillcrest student may not bring any nuts or nut products to school for lunch.  Please take extra care when packing lunches and please note that Peanut Butter, Almond Butter and other nut butters and Nutella are not allowed at school.

PLEASE NOTE THESE IMPORTANT DATES

  • April 19th - April 23rd -- School Vacation Week

  • May 5th -- Early Release Day/Teacher In-Service

Wishing you a wonderful vacation week ---
