Dear Hillcrest Families,

Wow! It’s hard to believe that it’s the final day of May! We have just two weeks of school left and we’ll be busy each day with lots of learning in the classroom and lots of fun events outside the classroom, too!  One of my favorite end of the year events is the Senior Walkthrough which will take place next Friday, June 7th. This is when the seniors of Turner Falls High School take a walk through the halls of Hillcrest dressed in their graduation caps and gowns. As they walk, they are celebrated by applause and cheering from our students and staff and by some adorable handmade signs.  This is a wonderful opportunity to honor their hard work and to encourage our young students to plan for the future.

Additional notes for the week:

• Our final day of Kindergarten Screening is on Monday, June 3rd. These short visits are a great way for our incoming students to begin building connections with our team of kindergarten teachers.  If you have a current Hillcrest preschooler who will be attending kindergarten next year, your student’s Kindergarten Screening will take place during the school day -- there is no need for you to schedule a special appointment and you do not need to attend the screening session.

• Hillcrest Field Day is Tuesday, June 4th from 9:00 to 11:00.  Family members are welcome to join us as volunteers to assist with the various events. Please meet us on the back playground at 9:00 if you’d like to lend a hand.  

• On Field Day, please be sure to apply sunblock to your Hillcrest student before he or she arrives at school.  Sunblock is essential for this event, but we are unable to individually apply sunblock to 165  students! Thank you.

• Our first graders will take their annual Field Trip to the Montague Safety Complex on Thursday, June 6th.  This is a walking field trip and our students will leave promptly at 8:45, so please be sure to have your child at school by 8:30 on Thursday.

• And, on Saturday, June 8th, we’ll hold the Warrior Dash! This exciting adventure obstacle course event is a fundraiser which will benefit Montague Recreation and the Hillcrest Playground Fund.  You can register online at https://www.runreg.com/8698. Please join us!

• Don’t forget that our last three days of school -- June 12th, 13th and 14th -- are Early Release Days.  Our preschoolers will be dismissed at 11:30 and our kindergarten and first grade students will be dismissed at 12:00.  Lunch will be served.

• Be sure to mark you calendars with these special events:

  • Hillcrest Field Day -- June 4th

  • First Grade Field Trip -- June 6th

  • Warrior Dash -- June 8th

  • Preschool Year End Celebration -- June 13th

  • Last Day of School -- June 14th
