Friday News

April 12, 2019

Dear Hillcrest Families,

How about starting off School Vacation week with Potluck and Game Night here at Hillcrest?  I hope many families will join us tonight at 5:30 for a yummy potluck dinner and some old-fashioned board games.  Bring a dish to share (enough for ten people) and your favorite game and we’ll all relax and have some fun together.  We’ll have our school collection of Connect 4, Candy Land, Spot-It, Chutes & Ladders and other family favorites ready for you!

A few important notes:

  • Looking for a simple way to support Friends of Hillcrest? Stop by Hillcrest on Saturday morning (April 13th) to drop-off your redeemable bottles and cans.  Friends of Hillcrest volunteers will be ready to assist you from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Just pull up into the driveway and they’ll help you to unload your bottles and cans.

  • When we return from School Vacation Week, we’ll be getting ready to welcome new preschoolers and their families at our Preschool Open House and Registration event on Friday, April 26th from noon to three o’clock.  Please spread the word to your family, friends and neighbors! Our preschool serves students who live in Gill and Montague. Students must turn three years-old before September 1, 2019 in order to be eligible for the preschool program.

  • We are looking forward to celebrating National Poetry Month at our April All School Meeting on Friday, April 26th. We’ll enjoy presentations from Mrs. Prevett’s preschoolers, Mrs. Lesenski’s kindergarten students and Miss Matrishon’s first graders. We hope you’ll join us!

  • On Friday, May 3rd, all of our first graders will present the songs they’ve created with artist-in-residence, Sarah Pirtle.  Hillcrest friends and families are invited to this special performance at 9:00 in the All Purpose Room. We are grateful to the Massachusetts Cultural Council for funding this exciting enrichment program.

  • And, on Saturday, May 4th, the Hillcrest School Council Story Walk will take place in downtown Turners Falls along Avenue A between 3rd and 4th streets from 10:00 a.m. to noon. This interactive family reading experience of Call Me Tree/Llamame Arbol by Maya Christina Gonzalez will be followed by a gallery exhibition of Hillcrest students’ artwork and a free children’s concert featuring Tom & Lauri at La Mariposa Collective.

  • Please mark your calendars with these important dates:

    • April 15th - 19th -- School Vacation Week
