Friday News

February 1, 2019

Dear Hillcrest Families,

Happy February to all of you! It really seems like the first month of 2019 flew right by!  Despite the disruptions of our Two Hour Delay days and holidays this past month, our teachers and students have taken advantage of all of our school days to explore new ideas and build new skills.  In preschool, our students have been taking on a variety of pretend roles in their Tools of the Mind Restaurant theme.  In kindergarten, our students have launched into a study of Japan as they get ready to read the next Magic Tree House book, The Night of the Ninjas.  And in first grade, our students are exploring science themes through their work with artist-in-residence, Sarah Pirtle.

A few important notes:

  • The 100th Day of School, which will occur next week, is an especially fun day at Hillcrest. Please be sure to check your child’s folder for news about how your student will be observing the 100th Day in their classroom.

  • Please note that our February All School Meeting will be held on Friday, February 15th. This change to the third Friday of the month, rather than the fourth Friday, is due to school vacation week.  The theme for February is Friendship.

  • Wednesday, February 6th is an Early Release Day for Professional Development.  Hillcrest staff members will be focused on a range of topics including Lesson Study, Advantage Math Recovery, and Behavior Analysis. Preschoolers will be dismissed at 11:30 and Kindergarten and First Grade students will be dismissed at 12:00. Lunch will be served.

  • February School Vacation Week is February 18th through February 22nd.

  • Please mark your calendars for Read Across Hillcrest on Friday, March 1st. This free, family event will feature a pizza dinner, fun read-aloud activities and a free book shopping spree. You won’t want to miss it!

  • If you have not been receiving the automated phone calls announcing Two Hour Delays, please contact Mrs. Prokowich in the Hillcrest Office so that she can update your contact information.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend --

Sarah Burstein
