Turners Falls High School and Great Falls Middle School

Principal’s Update – February 18, 2022

Winter Break runs from February 21st to 25th, we look forward to seeing the students on Monday, February 28th . Have a restful break!

Honor Roll

We are proud to announce that we have an impressive number of students on the Quarter 2 Honor Roll in both schools. From 3rd Honors to 1st Honors, we have 95 GFMS students and 101 TFHS students. Congrats to all of our students on their great work.

Three Cheers for our Cheer Team!

Our Cheer Team placed 3rd in their division in a recent competition and had a higher score than they did in their last competition from 2020. The team has worked hard overcoming injuries and setbacks this year, and they were overjoyed at the results. Their hard work and dedication has paid off and now they move on to competitions at Malden HS, Shepard Hill, and Holyoke High. Congrats to the Cheer Team for their success.

Girls Basketball

The TFHS Girls Varsity Basketball Team secured their first league title since 1983 with a win over Athol this past Monday night. Congrats to our girls on a great season! Keep your eyes and ears open for announcements on their upcoming playoff games.

Plus Portals Username Changes for Students

The GMRSD Tech Team sent a message today to all of our students in grades 6 to 12 informing them that they will be receiving an email message from PlusPortals to activate their NEW PlusPortals account username and password. The new username/s will now be the student’s firstname.lastname@gmrsd.us email address. It will also ask that students establish a new password for their PlusPortals account. Students are encouraged by the Tech Team to use the same password as their email password so that they do not forget. There will not be any changes to the information students receive from PlusPortals. This activation email message will be sent out at the end of the day today, on Friday February 18. Students are encouraged to respond to that activation email as soon as they receive it. This will ensure that there will be little interruption to the use of their PlusPortals Student account when they return from vacation.

TFHS Extravaganza

On Wednesday, March 2 nd from 5:00 – 6:30, we will be hosting the TFHS Extravaganza! This will be an opportunity for students and their parents/guardians to learn more about the offerings at TFHS. We are looking to highlight all that we have to offer with programming and classes, the Arts, sports, and activities. This event is targeted toward our 8th graders, and interested HS students, and even other interested MS students. We are still planning this event, and we will be sending out additional notifications with more information over the next week.

TFHS Screening of “I’m Not a Racist…Am I?”

Please see the attached letter which explains the upcoming screening of “I’m Not a Racist…Am I?” on Thursday, March 3rd during advisory class.

8 th Grade Tours

Our 8th graders in Great Falls Middle School will be going on tours of Turners Falls High School on Wednesday, March 9th , which is a half day. Teachers in the high school will be sharing some of the engaging activities which are a part of TFHS programming. We look forward an exciting day for our 8 th graders and our TFHS students.

Helping Hands/ALC

Helping hands/ALC has been providing snacks to our winter athletes, theater participants, students for weekend needs, and will hand out 12 bags for February break. As always, thank you to the community for their support.

Staying Safe and Sanitizing:

In order to mitigate the spread of Covid, we are asking that students and staff use hand sanitizer upon arrival to the school building in the morning. Students should also use hand sanitizer when they enter the cafeteria. Our staff members will be encouraging the use of hand sanitizer often throughout the day and every time they touch their faces and/or masks.

Late Bus

Our late bus runs Mondays through Fridays, and it leaves the school at 4:00 p.m. Students who are getting help from teachers or engaged in activities which end before 4:00 are welcome to take the bus. Students who wish to take the late bus must sign up for it in the main office by 1:00 p.m.

Thank you for partnering with the Turners Falls High School and Great Falls Middle School faculty and staff in providing our students with a great educational experience. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
