Dear Gill Families, Caregivers, and Staff,

The return to school this new year has been an interesting one, to say the least! Some students have had to be out, as well as staff, due to the recent spike in Covid cases. In some cases, depending on the variables in the specific situation, some students/staff have had to be out for quite some time. The school is checking in with these families and we are preparing work for students who are at home in quarantine. Despite the challenges, students continue to receive strong core curriculum and are doing well. I ask you for your patience and partnership in support at this time. Nurse Varner has really been a rock star in keeping on top of the protocols, connecting with families, and providing guidance and support for the school community. We continue to move forward and are being careful to follow the building based-protocols here at Gill. If you do have any questions, we are here to help. Nurse Varner will gladly answer any questions you may have and can be reached at (413)863-7458 or Carol.Varner@gmrsd.org.

Here are some updates and reminders to be aware of:

  • The December Food Drive was a success and we collected around 180 food items. First grade made a poster with each snowman counting for five food goods, so we got some math in there too!
  • Today was the official launch of the Massachusetts Children’s Book Award contest for students in grades 4-6. Students have a choice to participate in reading books from a selected list of children’s high quality literature. Each classroom is in competition to read the most books, and students who read five or more books are eligible to vote for their favorite and enjoy a pizza party. Please encourage your child to participate if they are in these grades, and look for the letter that went home today.
  • The PTO is getting the word out there- please see the enclosed flier for the March calendar raffle update!

Have a warm and safe three-day weekend.
Sincerely,

Lisa Desjarlais
