Dear
Parents,
There
are many things to know about the Montague Center School and the
people who work here. We have a terrific staff that continues
to improve professionally. This carries a genuine message
of lifelong learning to the children as they see their teachers
committed to learning themselves. Though classrooms are
separated by grade level, the staff and I plan a number of school-wide
learning opportunities to build a sense of community amongst all
who are in the school. Two examples worth mentioning are
the frequently held school-wide meetings and the collaboration
of the staff on an annual school-wide theme.
The
grade level configuration at the Montague Center School is Preschool
to Grade 3. Of significance for the 1997-1998 school year
is the beginning of all-day Kindergarten. This is a major
step forward in early childhood programming for our school district.
Curricula and instructional practices at all grade levels
are current with how children learn best. Teachers strengthen
learning experiences by providing children with a variety of hands-on
materials which are apparent in all of the classrooms.
In
addition to the academics, the children at the Montague Center
experience specialists' programming in physical education, art,
music and movement & drama. Our practice is to integrate/connect
specialists' programming in all subject areas.
A
special area of study at all grade levels that has grown over
many years of staff work in in Nature Study. Each year,
classes visit a nearby nature site to study first-hand the diversity
of living things in an 'outdoor' setting. Our classroom
without walls!
School-wide
events are sponsored by the PTO and others are planned by the
staff. Monthly school newsletters and attendance at PTO
meetings are the best ways to receive information about what will
be happening. Here are some of the events to anticipate:
Halloween
Festival - Fall
Winter Concert - Winter
Pot Luck Supper - Winter
Fishing Derby - Spring
Spring Pageant - Spring
Performances at the Shea Theatre - Per Shea Theatre Schedule
Parent
involvement and support is essential to all that we do at the
Montague Center School. We do our best to enlist your thoughts
and participation on an ongoing basis. We truly want our
school to be a community of learners.
Sincerely,
Anna M. Garbiel, Principal |
