HEALTH SERVICES
When your child is not feeling well, the school nurse will determine if your child needs to be sent home.
Please be sure that you have provided us with telephone numbers on the emergency card so we will be able to reach you, a family member/neighbor quickly, upon determining your child is not well enough to remain at school.

Medical Files
All students are required to have a medical file which includes the following:
  • Up to date immunizations
  • Birth certificate
  • Evidence of Lead Screening & results
  • A recent physical examination
  • Information on any known medical problem or condition

Massachusetts state law requires that no child be allowed to enter school without the required immunizations.  Parents will be notified if the students' records are not in proper order.  If parents fail to immunize the child, the child will not be allowed to come to school until immunized as required.

Medication Policy

From time to time children may need to take medicines at school.  For temporary dispersement of medicine, parents need to do the following:

  • send medicine in its true container - no plastic bags
  • a signed note by parent indicating dosage & time to administer
For children who need medication on a daily basis, parents must complete the following:
  • a signed consent by parent or legal guardian - school form
  • a written medication order signed by your child's physician - school form
Medication is not given on half days unless arrangement have been made to so so.

Head Lice (Pediculosis)

As a general school procedure, all children are checked within the first few weeks of school for head lice.  Should a case of head lice be discovered, parents are notified immediately and are asked to pick up their child for treatment.  All nits must be removed before a child can reenter.

A letter notifying the parents of the children in the affected classroom is sent home.

Other Conditions Requiring Immediate Action:

Contagious conditions such as "pink eye", scabies and impetigo ado require that a child be sent home.  The child may return to school when evidence is presented that the condition has been treated and is no longer contagious.
