Discipline
Code
The staff at the Montague Center School is committed to offering
a warm and caring community in which a successful educational
experience is emphasized for each individual child. One
that is focused on a sound academic program as well as instilling
a sense of self-worth and individuality. We emphazise that
personal responsibility, good citizenship and trust are as essential
to a child's education as the their mastering of academic skills.
Conflict is
a part of life and of all relationships both inside and outside
of the classroom environment. Our belief is that, while
not always pleasant, conflict provides an opportunity for problem
solving without aggressive or disrespectful behavior.
Our approach
to discipline is to teach social skills and appropriate behavior
through daily interactions amongst classmates and adults. Modeling
by teachers is key and practiced frequently to demonstrate appropriate
behaviors for children. Praise, positive notes and awards
supplement acknowledging desirable behavior(s).
Should inappropriate
behavior not be corrected by verbal reminders and modeling, parents
will be notified by a written form and/or given a phone call.
Our preference is to enlist parent support to deal with
inappropriate behaviors so that learning social responsibility
is the goal to achieve - not punishment.
